Geography Field Trip to Wellow Brook
On our recent geography field trip to Wellow Brook, we explored both the natural features of the river and signs of human activity in the surrounding area. One of the most noticeable natural features was a meandering section of the river, where we observed how the water had shaped the land over time, creating bends and gentle curves. This helped us understand river processes such as erosion.
Alongside these natural elements, we also identified several signs of human activity, including a medieval bridge, parts of the old railway, WW2 defences as well as footpaths, bridges, and nearby farmland. We know that Wellow Brook has been important to humans since the Neolithic era.
These features highlighted how people have adapted the landscape to meet their needs while also impacting the river environment. The trip gave us a valuable opportunity to apply our classroom learning to a real-world setting and better understand the interactions between people and the natural world.
