Peasedown St John Primary School was built in 1913.  It is a large, lively, vibrant school for approximately 480 children aged 2 – 11 years. Our aim is “achieving excellence for ourselves and others” and this vision permeates all that we do.

Whilst we are a large primary school, each year group works as a close team in hubs across the site, creating small, friendly and supportive environments for each child to flourish.

Our main building has two storeys and in addition to classrooms, we have rooms dedicated to art and design, computing, phonics, our extensive library and our Rainbow (nurture) Room. Our Reception classrooms have their own large outdoor learning and play area. Through an inner courtyard, used for Year 1 outdoor learning and quiet play at lunch, you reach our dining room and kitchen where all meals are cooked on site daily.

Beyond our main building we have additional classrooms, including the ‘new build’ which houses our music room and a small hall used for packed lunches, Breakfast Club and After School Club. We have a separate building and garden area for our nursery children.

Our outdoor spaces include a large playground with football and basketball nets, OPAL play zones including a performance stage, mud kitchens, creative and water play, scooter area and den building areas. We have a garden and conservation area and a smaller field which, from September 2024, will be extensively developed into a forest school. Beyond the playground we have our main school field. Find out more on our Outdoor Learning page.

During 2023 the school benefited from a £3 million DfE Decarbonisation Project. As a result we have improved our building’s insulation and our heating will be provided through a ground-source heat pump.

Children who come to our school receive good teaching and make good progress, but there is much more to it.  We provide a wide range of opportunities for children to develop their musical, sporting and language abilities, as well as many other interesting learning experiences – all designed to enable children to enjoy their primary school years in an atmosphere where every child can shine. Find out more through ‘Our Community‘ pages.

During their time with us children are nurtured as individuals.  We work hard to develop in them lifelong learning skills and behaviours, as well as self-respect and respect for others. The best way to judge our success in achieving this is by visiting the school and meeting the children. Please contact us to arrange a tour.
