At the beginning of Year 5, children are given the opportunity to apply for a role in the Mini Police. This experience helps these children to become strong ambassadors and lays the foundations to become Year 6 pupil leaders.

The Mini Police scheme is an interactive volunteering opportunity for 9-11 year olds, which follows our 3 step approach; Education, Community and Reward. The objective is to introduce these children to a positive experience of policing and to get them involved in the local community.

Working with the local PCSOs, children take part in litter picking and tree planting and are taught first aid, home and water safety. They also find out and help the PCSOs with speed enforcement.

This initiative has been in place for 9 years and in 2026, won the Special Award at the National Crime Beat Awards. Congratulations to Louise and Tony and all the cadets who have taken part in this programme.
