The children of Fern Class were the first class this term to visit the word-famous Orchid Project at Writhlington School this week.
The Orchid Project was started in 1985 and is recognised as a world-leading centre on orchids, gaining visitors from around the world. The greenhouse has four climate zones and our children were able to explore the various orchids growing in these zones as well as pot their own orchid to take home.
The school also hosts a propagation lab where students carefully plant seeds and nurture them in jars for five years before transferring them to the greenhouse. Here, Fern Class children were able to use the laboratory microscopes to view the inside of a celery stem, furthering their understanding of how plants live.
