Welcome back to Term 5!

We are so impressed with the effort and energy Year 5 have rejoined us with. They are all working really hard in every lesson and in their attitudes and behaviours towards their learning.

This term in English we are writing a non-chronological report. We have started our model sentence stacking on penguins to learn the necessary SPAG elements to include but will be writing our final independent piece on Polar Bears. Why not watch some Planet Earth or other documentaries to learn some facts?

In Guided Reading, we are reading and answering questions about Tom’s Midnight Garden. The story is about a twelve-year-old, Tom, who, while staying with his aunt and uncle, slips out at midnight and discovers a magical, mysterious Victorian garden where he befriends a young girl named Hatty. It is important to introduce young children to classic texts because they offer significant benefits, including expanding their vocabulary and providing exposure to different historical periods.

In Maths this term, we are finishing our unit on decimals by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them before moving onto investigating area and perimeter and statistics.

In Geography, we are learning all about mountains. In PE, we are having a go at playing basketball as well as testing ourselves in various athletics. In Science, we are exploring the life cycles of plants and animals. In DT, we are investigating different types of bridges, in particular a truss bridge!
