At PSJ, science is a thorough and hands-on journey of discovery. Through our challenging, inquiry-based curriculum, pupils explore the world around them by asking questions, testing ideas and learning through practical investigation. From exploring habitats to experimenting with materials, our approach nurtures curiosity and builds confident, capable young scientists.
We are fortunate to have an ongoing partnership with Writhlington School and the Orchid Project, which gives pupils access to specialist knowledge, rare species and exciting opportunities to deepen their understanding of plants.
Our science curriculum exploits the rich scientific links our local and national industries have to offer by making explicit links to renowned and lesser-known scientists. This develops our pupils’ CARE value of aspiration, encouraging them to see science as an exciting and prosperous choice for their futures.
Looking ahead to 2025–26, we’re launching our PSJ Gardening Project: a commitment to developing our fantastic grounds to include a living classroom where children will learn gardening skills and study plant life through scientific inquiry. This space will support cross-curricular learning and foster environmental stewardship, strengthening our children’s pride in being part of the PSJ community.
Each year, we celebrate British Science Week. In 2025, our Science Fair welcomed families into school for a day of interactive experiments and hands-on activities along the theme of ‘adaptation’.
