Year 1 had a fantastic time at Forest School this week as we explored the exciting (and very important!) topic of fire safety.
We began by talking about how to have a safe fire, including where fires should be built, how we behave around them, and why listening carefully to instructions is so important. The children showed great focus and understanding during these discussions.
We then demonstrated how to start a fire safely using cotton wool, a small amount of Vaseline and flint and steel. The children watched carefully and learned how this helps the fire to catch. Those who wished to could have a go themselves under close adult supervision.
After this, we enjoyed a delicious Forest School treat by cooking bananas filled with chocolate chips over the fire. Even if they weren’t sure whether they would like it or not, every child showed resilience at tasting their treat (and there was actually hardly any waste!)
