What a day! This morning, we had an extended morning in the villa: a brilliant opportunity to bond, play in the garden and make our packed lunches. Some of the children went to the local woods to play and explore in the morning sunshine. We headed towards the city, where we explored the palace and beautiful gardens, enjoying our lunch sitting in the sun. While we were there, we were lucky to see the guards marching (and had to move quickly out of their way as they came past us, which was amusing)! We met our knowledgeable tour guide Marketa and had a fascinating tour of the historic centre. We learned about the religious history of the city and some of the gruesome fates of different groups of people who were persecuted in the past. We saw the astronomical clock chime and spent some time exploring the markets and shops. We even saw a nutria – a swimming rodent, similar to a beaver or otter – swimming in the river from Charles Bridge: an unexpected highlight of the day!
Later on, the children played games and wrote in their Prague journals whilst dinner was prepared. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican feast: fajitas, guacamole, tortilla chips and salsa, with many of the children being adventurous and trying something new.
We’re looking forward to meeting our Czech friends again tomorrow at the zoo!
