Welcome to Sapphire Class’s page. Here you will find an update about the things we are currently learning in class. We have now settled in to year four and we know our routines. Our teachers have a high expectation for excellent learning and we work hard to achieve this. This term, our learning is centred around the theme of Ancient Egyptians which we are finding fascinating; we are learning about the structure of Egyptian society, the importance of the River Nile and the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter in 1922.
In English, we have written setting and character descriptions to describe the tomb and the pharaoh. We are also learning about grammatical features such as adverbial phrases and expanded noun phrases and applying these in our writing. Our current class book is Secret Agent Mummy by Steve Cole and we are enjoying the crazy crime-fighting adventure! We are also learning the poem How Teachers Leave School Each Evening by Brian Moses.
In Maths, we are consolidating our knowledge of numbers to ten thousand; we are ordering and comparing these numbers and will be practicing adding four digit numbers in the coming weeks. Times tables continues to be a focus and we have been looking at the patterns and similarities between times tables that help us with our recall. The link for the Times Tables Rock Stars website is at the bottom of this page. Until Christmas, Sapphire class are having swimming lessons and everyone is working hard to improve their swimming skills.
