The Pupil Voice team were lucky enough to have a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of our new ground-source heat pump room which is now completed.

The new pump room is situated in the main playground with the pipes that supply the heated water being up to 180 m under the ground in our school field. The children were surprised to hear how the pumps move the water from the ground to heat our school radiators.

One member of the group commented, ‘It is like the inside of a space station!’.

Another said, ‘Our school heating is so warm; it is hard to believe that it has been heated from underground.’

This new heating system has been installed through a DfE decarbonisation grant.

As a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience the works have caused, the Dodd Group have gifted the school £5000 which will be spent on improving playground equipment, purchasing more OPAL equipment, new bike and scooter racks and the installation of a traversing wall along the side of the new pump room.
