This term our topic is Kings and Queens, so we started by learning about when they lived in castles. The children have learnt about towers, arrow slits, battlements, a portcullis, drawbridges and moats. Interestingly castles were originally built with no windows on the ground floor to keep Kings, Queens and their subjects safe from attacks.

This week the children were challenged to design and make their own castles using a variety of junk modelling, natural resources and tools. They also had to worked together in their teams, negotiate, problem-solve, listen to each others ideas and help each other to create their team castle. The photographs clearly show their learning journey from a table of resources to their finished project. They engaged for an hour using their critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as a lot of creativity.
